Ravenna Township, MI : 10-year-old dead after SUV driven by 14-year-old crashes in Muskegon County on Thursday night, December 3, 2015
A 10-year-old boy who died when a car driven by his 14-year-old friend crashed on a rural road Thursday night has been identified by police.
The 10-year-old was Jeffrey Jennings, and he lived on South Moorland Road in Ravenna Township, according to Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler. He reportedly was home-schooled.
The identity of the 14-year-old, who suffered serious injuries in the accident, is not being released. Roesler said that is because the teen is expected to be charged criminally in connection with the incident.
The 14-year-old is an eighth-grader at Coopersville Middle School, and the 10-year-old was a home-schooled student, according to Ravenna Public Schools Superintendent John VanLoon. A spokeswoman for Coopersville Public Schools said this morning that Superintendent Ron Veldman had no comment.
The crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. Thursday when the 14-year-old apparently lost control of an SUV on Ensley Road, a dirt road, just north of Wilson Street in Ravenna Township, the sheriff said. Damage to the vehicle was considerable, he said.
The driver was taken to Mercy Health Muskegon's Hackley Campus, and Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene, Roesler said.
