A Marin County sheriff's captain was injured in a head-on crash on state Highway 1 in Sonoma County on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Juan Banda, 21, of Santa Rosa was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Astro van north on Highway 1 around 2:15 p.m. when he crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, CHP Officer Kerri Post said.
The Impala was driven by Ignacio Richard Navarro, 47, a Marin County sheriff's captain, and the car was registered to Marin County, Post said.
Banda's van had swerved to the right shoulder, then to the left and collided with the Impala, Post said. Banda suffered a lower left leg injury and Navarro suffered a broken left arm and complained of pain on the left side of his body, she said.
Both men were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, and Banda was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Post said.
