One teen died and another was critically injured in a one-vehicle accident Friday evening in Alachua County.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Jeremy Michael Dixon, 19, of Fort White, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 27 at 5 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, his 1981 Chevrolet C-10 pickup traveled on the grass shoulder just south of County Road 241.
Dixon overcorrected and the truck then drove across the highway and off the east shoulder where it hit a tree, the report states.
Dixon was taken to Shands at the University of Florida in critical condition, the report states.
Laddie Dean Abel, 17, of McAlpin, a passenger in the truck, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Alachua County EMS, according to the report.
The crash is still being investigated by FHP and charges are pending the investigation, the report states.
