UHRICHSVILLE, OH : Trooper hit by car while handling crash on Friday, October, 13th 2017
An Ohio Highway Patrol trooper was treated for injuries suffered when he was hit by a vehicle Friday night while responding to a crash on U.S. Route 250 near McCauley Drive.
Sgt. Gary Wolfe said the trooper was treated at Union Hospital and released, and is experiencing soreness as the result of being struck twice by the same vehicle. He was off-duty Saturday but returned to the New Philadelphia post Sunday.
The incident occurred while the trooper was behind a car that had hit a deer, Wolfe said. The trooper was talking to the driver of the tow truck at the time.
He was hit by the first of two eastbound vehicles that approached the scene of the 11 p.m. crash, according to a patrol dispatcher. The first vehicle, which had slowed, was propelled forward toward the trooper by a second vehicle that hit it from behind.
