Columbia, TN : Columbia Police searching for driver in fatal hit-and-run with bicyclist on Saturday night, December 17, 2016

Columbia Police are requesting assistance in locating the driver who fatally struck a bicyclist in a hit-and-run Saturday night.

Police responded to the 200 block of Riverside Drive around 8 p.m. to a call that a person had just been struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.

Fifty-year-old James Mealer, of Columbia, was found at the scene with extensive injuries. He was treated by medical personnel but later died from his injuries.

Mealer was riding his bicycle south on Riverside Drive when he was struck from behind. The driver who hit him was traveling the same way.

Police are still working to identify and locate the vehicle that struck Mealer.
Witnesses say the vehicle is a large, dark colored truck. It is believed there would be damage to the front passenger side of the truck near its headlights.
