Fort Lauderdale, FL : Delray Beach man, 20, killed in West Boca motorcycle crash on Monday afternoon, January 30, 2017

A 20-year-old Delray Beach man died Monday afternoon after he was thrown off his motorcycle and hit a tree, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of West Palmetto Park Road, the sheriff's office said.

Jeffrey Valarezo was riding east along West Palmetto Park Road when he struck the center median as he approached Boca Rio Road, authorities said.

Valarezo lost control of his 2003 Honda CBR900 motorcycle and was thrown off, hitting a tree on the median. He died at the scene.

Authorities released Valarezo's name Tuesday afternoon after his family was notified.
