Chamblee, GA : Three men struck, killed while trying to cross freeway just northeast of Atlanta on Tuesday, July 1, 2014
Police in Atlanta's northeast suburbs say three men were struck and killed by a pickup as they attempted to walk across a freeway near the start of the morning rush hour.
DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the crash happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85, near the Chamblee-Tucker Road exit.
Moments after the crash, two bodies could be seen on the pavement in the southbound lanes as commuters drove slowly past the flashing lights of the first police car on the scene.
Parish said the men had entered the freeway from the east, crossed all northbound lanes, and then scaled the median wall that separates northbound and southbound traffic before they were struck.
She said the pickup driver stopped, and no charges have been filed.
