LEE COUNTY, FL : Cape Coral driver involved in deadly crash arrested for speeding away from traffic stop on Monday, 23rd February 2022

Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Cape Coral man who sped away from a traffic stop on North Tamiami Trail near the Edison Bridge.

Troopers said Percy Perez was pulled over in his Dodge Charger for speeding and driving with no headlights on Feb. 2. The driver eventually stopped, then sped off to get away from troopers.

FHP continued to search for the Dodge Charger and Perez over several weeks.

Investigators responded to a deadly crash on US 41 and Littleton Road on Tuesday in North Fort Myers. Perez was involved in the crash and was identified as the driver who drove off from troopers during the traffic stop earlier in the month.
