Bear Creek Township, PA : Loegen Siler, 18, died in a car crash in Luzerne County on Saturday night, February 13, 2016

A Luzerne County teen died Saturday night after sustaining injuries in a car crash on Old East End Boulevard, west of Bear Creek Boulevard.

County Deputy Coroner Kaitlin Keating identified the victim as 18-year-old Loegen Siler.

State police said the crash, which happened at 6:20 p.m., occurred when Siler, of Bear Creek Township, was driving his 2003 Subaru Imprezza around a right hand curve, lost control of the vehicle and slid off the roadway into a tree. The police report states that Siler was driving at a safe speed.

Plains Township residents Jessie Herron, 16, Jordan Herron, 17, and Sarah Kelly, 17, were passengers in the Subaru; they all were wearing seat belts, state police said.

Police said Siler was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Siler was pronounced dead around 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, due to multiple traumatic injuries, Keating said. State police said the Herrons reportedly suffered minor injuries and Kelly was not injured.

Friends memorialized Siler on Sunday after news about his death circulated social media.

Ali Bozek, 19, of Wilkes-Barre, a former classmate of Siler at James M. Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, said “he was the social butterfly.”

Ed Van Wagner, of Valatie, New York, used to babysit Siler and Stephanie, Loegan’s sister. He was “absolutely stunned to find out that he did in fact perish in an accident.”

Van Wagner remembers Siler as a “good kid” who “lived life to the fullest and always had a great time” and “fought with his sister a lot, as siblings do.”

According to Van Wagner, Siler and his family moved back to the area from Gloversville, New York, “maybe less than a year ago.”

Bozek, said it was a “shock” to find out of the news.

“We (his group of friends) are all devastated,” Bozek said. “I dropped down to my knees (when I got the call).”

Bozek said she and Siler were “extremely close.” She explained she will miss the weekends together watching movies and especially “making grilled cheese for him.”

“He was such a loving man,” Bozek said.
