The Indiana County Coroner's office reported that a driver of a tractor-trailer from Allegheny County was killed when his truck ran into the rear of a flatbed trailer Tuesday on Route 22 in Burrell Township.
Coroner Jerry Overman said Perry W. Bonasso, 57, of Coraopolis, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:50 a.m. crash in the westbound lanes of Route 22 between Kettle Hollow and Palmerton roads.
PennDOT officials said the westbound lanes of Route 22 were closed until about 3 p.m. following the collision.
Overman said that a medical emergency may have led to the accident. Cause and manner of death are pending.
Toxicology tests will take several weeks to complete.
Overman said Bonasso's funeral arrangements were incomplete.
State police in Indiana were investigating, but a report has not been released. It was unclear whether the driver of the flatbed was injured.
