One person was killed and two other people were injured in a five-car crash on Highway 109 on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities said Sergio Lopez, 28, of Gallatin, TN, was killed in the accident when the car he was a passenger crashed into the rear of a car driven by Edgar Franco, 29, of Lafayette, TN, about 3:20 p.m. They were traveling north on Highway 109.
Police said the car, driven by a juvenile who was not injured, struck Franco’s vehicle in the rear as cars slowed for vehicles turning onto Burton Road.
Three other vehicles were involved in the chain reaction crash.
Franco’s car was pushed into the southbound lane where it collided head-on with a tractor-trailer truck. Both vehicles left the roadway.
Franco and his passenger Yesenia Perez, 23, of Lafayette, TN, were transported to local hospitals with injuries.
Eight other people involved in the crash were not injured, according to a preliminary police report.
Criminal charges are pending upon the conclusion of the investigation.
