ROTTERDAM, NY : Rotterdam police officer hurt in crash on Thursday, February 16th 2017

A Rotterdam police officer suffered nonlife-threatening injuries in a three-car crash Thursday, state police said.

The unidentified officer was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment. State police Capt. Michael Tietz described the injuries as back and leg pain.

One other driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. at Curry and Westcott roads as the officer pursued another vehicle, possibly related to a traffic stop. The officer's vehicle collided with a van and another vehicle at Westcott. The patrol car appeared to sustain front-end damage, while the van sustained damage to the side.

The car the officer sought to stop was not involved in the crash, Tietz said.

"We believe he may have been pursuing a motorist for a traffic violation," Tietz said.

The patrol car's in-car camera system is believed to have captured footage of the crash, Tietz said.

Curry Road was closed between Broadway and Paul Avenue.
