A man died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on Old Highway 99 near Tenino, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
“A semi was southbound on Old 99, crossed the center line and crushed the oncoming vehicle,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Carla Carter told The Olympian.
The car’s driver was killed, but the semitrailer driver was OK, she said. The victim’s identity was not released pending notification of family members, said Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock.
He described the victim as a 60-year-old Tenino man.
The crash happened in the 14100 block of Old Highway 99, the Sheriff’s Office posted on Twitter. The road was closed in both directions at Chein Hill until about 3:30 p.m.
“It’s probably the longest traffic fatality I’ve ever worked,” Warnock said.
