CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX : Cherokee County crash results in one killed, one hospitalized on US-175 on Wednesday, 1st August 2018

A car crash Wednesday in Cherokee County claimed the life of one and seriously injured another, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It happened on US-175 just before 6:30 p.m. about 6 miles west of Jacksonville.

DPS said that a 2002 Dodge Ram driven by 19-year old Ervey Alejandro Zuniga of Lufkin was traveling east on 175.

At the same time, a 2010 Mazda M3S driven by 49-year old Stacie Stallings Means of Frankston was traveling west on the same road.

DPS said for an unknown reason, Zuniga drifted into the on-coming lane of traffic and collided with the Mazda before driving off the roadway. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Zuniga was transported to UT Health-Tyler in serious condition. Means was pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS said the crash remains under investigation.
