Christiana, DEL : An elderly man died and his wife was critically injured Saturday night after a series of crashes on Del. 273 ending at I-95 in Christiana on May 3rd 2014

Authorities say a driver is dead and a passenger was injured when their vehicle crashed into an overpass in Christiana, Delaware.

It happened around 9:30 Saturday night on Route 273 at I-95.

Police say the male driver lost control of his vehicle in the westbound lanes.

The vehicle went up an embankment and struck the I-95 overpass.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

No word what caused the driver to lose control.

Delaware State Police are investigating.
