ARLETA, CA : 1 killed, another critically injured in multi-vehicle crash on 5 Freeway in Arleta on Sunday, 26th May 2019

One person was killed and another person was critically injured this morning at a multi-vehicle crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Arleta, authorities said.

The fatality was pronounced dead at an area hospital from a crash on the southbound freeway, where another person was transported from the wreckage in fair condition, said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The crash occurred a little before 4:20 a.m. on the southbound freeway at Van Nuys Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported, and involved at least eight vehicles.

The CHP reported that at least two people were unconscious in two of the vehicles. Three children in one of the vehicles escaped injury.
