A Cabarrus County Schools bus was involved in a traffic accident with a work truck at the intersection of Weddington Road and George Liles Parkway Wednesday afternoon, April 27.
A report from the Concord Police Department said Clyde Edward Furr, 62, of Mount Pleasant was driving a 2008 Dodge when he proceeded through the intersection that had a yellow light. The report said as he went through the intersection his
truck struck the bus, driven by Turasia Fluevrette Pharr of Concord, as she was making a turn.
According to the report, Pharr, 40 , said she was in the intersection sitting while the light was flashing a yellow arrow. She said while waiting to make a left turn the light cycled all the way through to red. Once it turned red, she proceeded to make
the left turn when Furr sped up to try to make the light, causing the vehicles to collide.
The report includes a witness statement from William Demario Suttles. Suttles said he saw the bus sitting in the intersection waiting on traffic to clear to make the left turn. Suttles said once his light turned green, Furr sped up to try and make the
light and the two vehicles collided.
According to Major Doug Wilhelm with the Concord Police Department, no students were on board when the accident occurred. Wilhelm said the truck driver sustained minor injuries but nobody was transported to the hospital.
Both vehicles were towed and the report estimates there was $6,000 of damage to the bus and $10,000 of damage done to the truck.
