A 51-year-old woman died after going off the roadway and crashing in a remote field near West Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.
The incident happened around 1:15 p.m. Saturday near Interstate 5 and Old River Road, officials said.
The Scotia, Calif. woman was driving a 2014 Honda Civic along the Yolo bypass when, for unknown reasons, her car went off the roadway and crashed underneath the bypass, officials said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said a 3-year-old child in the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The No. 2 lane of I-5 was blocked for about 20 minutes for cleanup and investigation.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
