A pedestrian was struck and killed on west Sugar Creek Road at Rutgers Avenue, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Police say Mary Ann Collins, 42, was pronounced dead on scene of the northeast Charlotte crash.
The collision happened at 7:22 p.m. Wednesday and involved one car. The driver who hit Collins was not hurt.
According to reports, the driver of the 1999 Acura saw Collins run in front of this vehicle and tried to avoid hitting her. When he swerved, he still hit her with the right front bumper of the car.
Police say Collins was wearing dark clothing and did not cross at a cross walk. However, the area is lit by street lights.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
West Sugar Creek Road was closed for several hours as police investigated the death.
