Monett,MO : Teen seriously injured in car collision on June, Monday 19th 2017
A Monett teenager received serious injuries when his car collided with a Burlington Northern train on Farm Road 1130, just north of Highway 60 in Lawrence County at 8:12 p.m. on Monday.
Spencer Crossland, 18, was taken by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield from the scene.According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Crossland was driving north on Farm Road 1130 when he failed to stop and drove into the path of a westbound Burlington Northern train, driven by Shaun Thimesch, 39, of Ozark. The train struck the passenger side of the car, turning it over on its side on the north side of the railroad tracks.
Monett firefighters responded to the scene to assist with extrication. Verona police, a Lawrence County sheriff's deputy, Highway Patrol and ambulances from Barry-Lawrence and Mercy all responded, as well.
The railroad crossing does not have crossbars at that location. A railroad safety meeting was scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the incident.
