A semi-truck driver has been accused of reckless driving after he collided with two construction vehicles on Interstate 5 early Friday, injuring two road workers and closing the roadway for hours.
The Oregon State Police say 58-year-old Kenneth Graven, of Glendale, was driving north through a work zone on I-5 near the Lake Oswego Carman Drive exit when he collided with the vehicles at 12:46 a.m. The semi-truck then jackknifed and came to a rest blocking the northbound lanes.
The collision injured two workers with a contractor doing striping work for the Oregon Department of Transportation. The workers were transported by ambulance to Oregon Health & Science University with non-life threatening injuries. Their names and other information about their activity at the time of the crash is not available, police said.
Graven was transported by ambulance to Legacy Meridian Park Hospital with a minor injury. Oregon State Police later cited Graven for reckless driving.
The crash blocked the northbound lanes for over four hours during the investigation. ODOT coordinated the removal of vehicles and cleanup of fuel and debris at the scene. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene.
Authorities urge drivers to be alert in highway work zones.
