Great Falls, MT : Three people die in wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 west of Great Falls early Monday, May 9, 2016
An early-morning crash Monday on Interstate 15 west of Great Falls claimed the lives of three women, the Montana Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. near mile marker 282, the MHP said. The women were in a Ford Escape traveling north in the southbound lanes of the interstate when their car collided with a semi, according to the MHP.
The driver of the semi was unable to avoid a collision with the vehicle driving the wrong way, and struck the Ford Escape head-on, the MHP said.
The three occupants of the Escape, who were not wearing seat belts, were declared dead at the scene, the MHP said. Their names have not been released, but all are from Great Falls, the MHP said.
The driver and passenger in the semi did not have injuries, according to the MHP.
It is unknown at this time if speed or alcohol contributed to the crash, and the incident is still under investigation.
This was the 56th report of a fatality on Montana roadways this year.
