DAVIS COUNTY, UT : Single-car crash downs power lines, causes outages in Davis County on Saturday, September 16th 2017
An early morning car crash in Syracuse caused as many as 1,500 Davis County residents to lose power Saturday morning.
Police responded to a call of a single-car car crash around 12:32 a.m. Saturday at 1000 W. 1700 South, Syracuse Police Det. Erin Behm said.
Behm said the car crashed into a light pole, causing the pole to then fall into a power pole and knocked down power lines.
Shortly after police arrived, crews from Rocky Mountain Power were called to the scene to repair the damaged power line.
RMP spokesperson David Eskelsen said the outage originally impacted roughly 1,500 people in the area but that number has been significantly reduced since then.
As of 6:15 p.m., roughly 735 people were without power, Eskelsen said. The estimated time of restoration is around 7 p.m.
Eskelsen said the downed line caused the Syracuse substation to have problems sending power to the Clearfield area.
The estimated restoration time for the outage is around 4 p.m., Eskelsen said.
Behm said the car accident was still under investigation as of Saturday morning.
