PORT ANGELES, WA : A wreck in Port Angeles sent two drivers to Olympic Medical Center on May, Wednesday, 17th 2017

A wreck in Port Angeles sent two drivers to Olympic Medical Center on Wednesday, after police say one didn’t comply with a stop sign.

At about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, a two-car wreck was reported at the intersection of Fifth and Cherry streets, said Deputy Chief Jason Viada.

One of the two vehicles struck and broke a power pole, which brought a live wire down into the front yard of a home on the 500 block of Cherry Street, he said.

Carol Petrin, 76. was driving a red 2013 Ford Explorer westbound on Fifth Street when she failed to heed the stop sign, Viada said.

Her vehicle hit a 1998 Saturn sedan that was driving northbound on Cherry Street, driven by Elizabeth Sumption, 64.

Petrin and Sumption are both Port Angeles residents.

“I anticipate [Petrin] will receive a citation for failing to comply with a stop sign,” Viada said.

Port Angeles Public Works Director Craig Fulton said the wreck did not cause any power outages in the area.

Both drivers were transported to OMC, treated for their injuries and released.
