Boonville,NY : Woman hurt following Boonville hit and run accident on April, Monday 2nd 2018
A woman who was riding a horse and struck by a car that drove off Monday did suffer injuries, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said.
The alleged hit and run took place Monday on Route 46, deputies said. The accident involved a gray 2011 Chevy Cruze that struck a horse being ridden by Cynthia Porter.
Porter contacted the sheriff’s office Tuesday morning at about 9 a.m. stating she was seeking medical attention at Rome Hospital for back, shoulder and head pain, deputies said.
The operator and owner, David Longway 61, of Boonville, was located in Boonville by the deputies, officials said.
Longway said that he did not think the horse or Porter were hurt bad so that’s why he did not report the incident, deputies said.
Longway made a statement that he did not know the police were responding, officials said, and that was why he did not wait at the scene.
Longway was issued four traffic tickets for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, failure to use due care when approaching a horse, leaving the scene of an animal accident and failure to maintain lane, officials said. Longway is to appear in Boonville Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
