CLUTE, TN : Man dead in Clute collision on Saturday, 19th May 2018
State highway department officials are helping police investigate a Highway 288-B collision that left a Clute man dead Saturday morning.
The 31-year-old man was driving northbound on Highway 288-B in a Dodge pickup just after 9 a.m. Saturday when the truck struck a traffic light post near the intersection of Highway 288-B and Johnson-Cook Road, Clute Police Chief James Fitch said.
The vehicle also struck a median before spinning around, Fitch said.
Residents in the area called police after hearing the collision and going outside, Fitch said.
The man had died by the time officers arrived on scene, the police chief said. He appeared to be the car’s only occupant, he said.
Police are not certain what led to the crash because there were no witnesses on scene, Fitch said. Texas Department of Public Safety officials are assisting Clute police in investigating the cause, he said.
“We are doing the paperwork,” Fitch said. “DPS is just assisting us.”
