Lyons ,CO : U.S. 36 re-opened after two-vehicle crash near the north branch of Apple Valley Road on Wednesday morning ,June 10th 2015
The Colorado State Patrol has reopened U.S. 36 after shutting it down following a two-vehicle crash near the north branch of Apple Valley Road outside Lyons just before 8 a.m. today.
Sgt. Rob Madden said a woman driving a white Honda eastbound fell asleep behind the wheel and crossed the center line into the path of a westbound pickup truck.
Madden said the driver of the pickup, which was towing travel trailer, swerved to avoid a collision but was hit by the Honda and collided with a rock wall.
There were four passengers in the truck -- two adults in the front and two children in the back. The front seat passenger was transported to the hospital via helicopter, according to the Lyons Fire Protection District. Another passenger from the backseat was also taken to the hospital, but via ambulance.
The driver of the Honda was also transported to the hospital via an ambulance.
Police cited the Honda driver for careless driving resulting in injury, no proof of insurance and no drivers license.
