Roseburg, OR : Coquille woman dies in fatal Douglas County crash on Thursday, 29th September 2016
A Coquille woman is dead after a Thursday morning crash on U.S. Highway 101 near Gardiner, according to the Oregon State Police.
At approximately 11:16 a.m., troopers responded to a single vehicle accident just north of the coastal town.
Troopers said a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier 4-door wagon was traveling northbound near milepost 206 when the vehicle crossed the fog line, clipped a guardrail impact panel and left the roadway. The vehicle then crashed into a sloped embankment on the shoulder of the road.
The driver of the vehicle, Stanley Phillips, 66, of Coquille, and his passenger, Betty Phillips, 83, had to be extricated by fire and medical personnel and were transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport.
Betty Phillips was pronounced deceased at the hospital and Stanley Phillips was later transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.
The investigation is ongoing, according to state police.
