Hesperia, CA : Motorcyclist suffers major injuries in crash on Seventh Avenue, just south of Bear Valley Road on Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2016
A 22-year-old Hesperia motorcyclist suffered major injuries after making "significant" impact with a sedan Sunday afternoon and coming to rest partly underneath the vehicle, authorities said.
The man is believed to have at least broken an arm and suffered internal injuries in the crash, which occurred on Seventh Avenue, just south of Bear Valley Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Sgt. Doug Hubbard told the Daily Press.
The incident was reported at 12:46 p.m.
The motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Seventh Avenue approaching Sequoia Avenue when a Sedan headed westbound on Sequoia stopped at a stop sign, and then proceeded onto Seventh. The driver, a 16-year-old girl, did not see the motorcyclist, according to Hubbard.
With no time to react, the motorcyclist struck the vehicle near the driver-side door and was essentially ejected from his bike, sliding to a stop halfway underneath the vehicle.
"I don't think he was trapped so much, he just came under the vehicle," Hubbard said. "He obviously had abrasions from sliding on the roadway ... The impact was significant."
The man was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for further evaluation. Meanwhile, the teenage driver suffered broken glass debris to her face and was taken to Victor Valley Global Medical Center for treatment.
The driver was found to be unlicensed, according to Hubbard, who added that two other occupants of the vehicle, the teen's grandma and a 12-year-old boy, were not injured.
Alcohol and speed were not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Authorities blocked off the area around Seventh and Sequoia avenues immediately following the crash. A tow truck arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. and the scene started to clear shortly before 2 p.m.
