Plainview,TX : Weekend crash in Hall County kills one on June, Friday 9th 2017
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a one-vehicle crash Friday on US-287 in Hall County, resulting in the death of one person.
According to Sgt. Cindy Barkley, spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety in Amarillo, approximately 11:32 a.m. Friday, Gary Harkey, 55, of Vernon, was driving a 2001 Ford pickup truck north on US-287, approximately one mile south of Estelline. The front left tire blew-out on the pickup, causing Harkey to lose control.
The vehicle left the roadway, traveled across the center median and southbound lanes of travel and rolled over multiple times.
Harkey was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead on scene by Hall County Justice of the Peace Sherrie Stone.
A passenger, Becky Harkey, 54, of Vernon, was transported by air to the hospital in Wichita Falls with life-threatening injuries. She was wearing her seat belt.
The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved, Barkley reported.
