Bakersfield, CA : Barstow resident killed in collision on north of Highway 58 or Old Bakersfield Highway on Sunday, 1st December, 2019

A local resident was killed and his passenger severely injured recently as a result of a collision that allegedly involved speeding north of Highway 58 or Old Bakersfield Highway.

The California Highway Patrol reported on Monday that at approximately 11:44 p.m, a 35-year old male from Barstow was driving a 2005 Infiniti southbound on Hinkley Road at an unknown high rate of speed, with a 37-year old male passenger from Hinkley.

As the Infiniti approached the intersection of Old Bakersfield Highway, the driver failed to stop for the posted stop sign and entered the intersection at a high rate of speed, the report said.

Due to the unsafe speed and a dip in the roadway, the Infiniti’s undercarriage collided with the roadway. The vehicle then entered the northbound lane of traffic of Hinkley Road as it continued in a southerly direction, the CHP report said.

The driver turned to the right and lost control of the vehicle, which then entered the west dirt shoulder where it collided with a raised dirt berm and overturned multiple times.

As the vehicle overturned, the 35-year old driver, who was unrestrained, was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained major injuries. The 37-year old passenger, who was restrained, also sustained major injuries, the report said.
