The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a car crash that killed a pedestrian in Lake County Friday.
The crash happened about 12:30 a.m., about a third of a mile west of Barrington Drive and County Road 44 near Eustis, said Trooper Wanda Diaz, a spokeswoman for the highway patrol.
Jean Provita, 71, of Umatilla, was traveling west on County Road 44A in a Ford Explorer when she struck the pedestrian, said Diaz.
The female pedestrian, who was walking east in the westbound lane, had not been identified Friday.
Diaz said Provita attempted to avoid the pedestrian, but she was struck by the front right of the SUV. Provita and a male passenger, Russell Provita, 82, were not injured, troopers said.
