Town of Stepenson, WI : Driver dies after crash southwest of Crivitz on Wednesday morning, July 13, 2016

A Green Bay woman is dead following a Wednesday morning car crash on Airport Road southwest of Crivitz.

Officials responded at 6:06 a.m. to reports of a one-vehicle crash on Airport Road near Devil's Lake Road, according to the Marinette County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said the car had been traveling eastbound when it veered off the road and hit several trees.

The driver was a 34-year-old woman with passengers of a 6-year-old boy, a 7-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl. The 10-year-old was able to free herself from the wreckage and walk to a nearby home, where she called 911.

The driver died during transport to the hospital. The 6- and 7-year-olds were severely injured and were airlifted to the hospital for treatment. The 10-year-old girl was treated at Bay Area Medical Center and has been released.

The name of the driver will not be released until the family is notified.

The cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated. However, authorities said the death and serious injuries were partly the result of not wearing seat belts.
