Lynchburg, VA : No students injured in Amherst County school bus crash Tuesday morning, September 27, 2016

More than a dozen Amherst County students are safely at Amherst Elementary School following an accident involving a bus and two passenger vehicles.

Amherst County’s Director of Public Safety Gary Roakes said the school bus the students were riding in was rear-ended this morning near Edinburgh Drive in Amherst County. The bus driver and students were uninjured.

Wayne Cocke, director of maintenance and transportation for Amherst County school division said there were 15 students on the bus and all were transported to school via another bus.

The individual driving the car that hit the bus was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the second passenger vehicle involved sustained no injuries.

Roakes said the road was cleared by approximately 10 a.m.

Cocke said he was notified of the accident around 8:30 a.m. The bus sustained damage to the rear bumper and had some broken glass. There is no time estimate yet on when the bus will be back in service.
