Midvale , UT : 37 - Years old man killed in crash after crashing his Honda Civic head-on into the median along I -15 on Monday , March 2nd 2015

A West Valley man was killed in a fiery crash Monday that caused hours of delays for I-15 motorists.

Antonio Lopez, 37, was northbound in the right lane of I-15 when he suddenly veered left across all lanes of traffic, crashing his Honda Civic head-on into the median near 7200 South about 2 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol troopers said.

The car bounced off the wall and spun back out into traffic where it was hit by an oncoming SUV and burst into flames, said UHP Lt. Jeff Nigbur.

Lopez was killed in the crash, while two occupants of the SUV were treated for minor injuries at an area hospital, Nigbur said.

Troopers shut down three lanes of traffic while the crash was cleared and investigated, causing miles of delays on I-15. All lanes reopened by 5 p.m.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Nigbur said.
