One man is dead and another in jail after a hit-and-run crash early Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017.
A 35-year-old man died about 1 a.m. after being struck and dragged by a vehicle in the 900 block of Texan Trail, according to a Corpus Christi police news release.
Witnesses told officers the man was in the crosswalk when a vehicle hit him, then carried him about 200 feet before stopping, the release states.
The driver got out of the car, looked at the man in the road, then got back in his car and fled, witnesses told police. The 35-year-old man died in the street near Ray High School.
Several witnesses gave police a description of the car and driver. An officer walked through the parking lot near Buccaneer Apartments and found a vehicle matching the description, the release states.
Noe Garza, 56, was found and taken into custody by police. He faces charges on suspicion of intoxicated manslaughter and accident involving injury/death.
His bond is set at $150,000, according to Nueces County Jail officials.
Anyone with information or video from the crash can call the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section at 361-886-2600 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to provide the evidence to investigators.
This is the city's fifth crash-related fatality since Jan. 1.
