Redwood City, CA : 17-year-old boy died after a rollover collision on Highway 101 Friday night, July 29, 2016
A 17-year-old boy from Elk Grove died after a rollover collision Friday night on Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The boy had been a passenger in a 2004 Buick sedan driven by a 15-year-old Sacramento boy. Their car was in the No. 1 lane of southbound Highway 101 shortly before 8:30 p.m. when the driver veered to the right, crossing all lanes, in an attempt to exit at Whipple Avenue.
The Buick crashed into a 2003 Toyota SUV and overturned several times, and the 17-year-old was ejected from the vehicle. the CHP said. Everyone in the vehicle had been wearing a seat belt.
The Elk Grove boy was transported to Stanford hospital, where he died.
The Buick's driver and another passenger, a 22-year-old Sacramento man, sustained minor injuries. The Toyota's sole occupant was not injured.
The collision is under investigation, according to the CHP. It does not appear that drugs or alcohol played a part in the fatal crash. No one was arrested.
