Northbound Interstate 17 has reopened at Jomax Road after a fatal tanker crash and oil spill Friday morning.

Rush-hour traffic was blocked in both directions on Interstate 17 for the crash and hazardous materials call near State Route 303 early Friday morning.

An Arizona Department of Transportation spokesman said northbound I-17 was restricted to two lanes until about 3:30 p.m. as crews continued to remove the asphalt oil spill.

The truck crashed on the median barrier about 5 a.m., killing the unidentified driver and spilling oil from the top of its tanker.
