SPRING VALLEY, AL : A Colbert County man was killed in an early crash on Sunday, December, 17th 2017
Authorities said a Colbert County man was killed in an early Sunday morning crash just off Alabama 157 in the Spring Valley community.
Kevin James Stringer, 20, Ricks Lane, Tuscumbia, was killed in the crash.
Cpl. Jeremy Baker, of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Quad-Cities State Trooper Post, said the one-car accident occurred at 1:15 a.m. on Colbert 61 (also known as Ricks Lane).
Emergency personnel at the scene said it appeared Stringer was heading home, and was less than a mile from his home when the accident occurred.
Baker said Stringer was driving a 2009 Pontiac G8. He said the car went off the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned.
Stringer was pronounced dead at the scene by Colbert County Coroner Justin Gasque.
Reports indicate that Stringer was thrown from the vehicle. Baker said Stringer was not wearing his seatbelt.
Authorities at the scene said the wreck was in a curve on Ricks Lane and it appeared the driver lost control in the curve, hit the utility pole and overturned throwing him from the vehicle.
The car, according to officials at the scene, was 30-50 feet off the roadway in some brush.
Emergency personnel at the scene said Stringer's body was found underneath the car.
Sunday morning's fatality is the second this month in the northwest Alabama region and the southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence.
It is the 45th total fatality this year in the region.
The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Quad-Cities State Trooper Post.
