Lower Macungie Township, PA : New Jersey woman died 3 others injured after a crash Interstate 78 in the Lehigh Valley on Friday night, December 25, 2015

A Trenton-area woman died after being struck Friday night on the shoulder of Interstate 78 in the Lehigh Valley, the second in a pair of crashes injuring at least three other people, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Tara Marie Slamon, 29, of Hamilton Township, suffered fatal blunt force injuries in the crash about 8:45 p.m. in Lower Macungie Township between Routes 222 and 309, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. She was pronounced dead at 2:40 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township.

Slamon was driving a 2004 Honda Accord, heading east and merging into the left lane when the vehicle went too far and hit the concrete center median, state police said in a news release Saturday.

The Accord stopped in the left lane, facing west. Slamon and her passenger, 33-year-old Joseph A. Rivera, also of Hamilton Township, got out of the car, police said. Two 46-year-old Easton residents, Shawn and Tara Fariello, reportedly stopped on the right shoulder to help them.

Slamon was hit when a 2005 GMC Envoy driven by 71-year-old Stanley J. Pieklo, of Saylorsburg, Pa., struck the Accord in the left lane, state police said. The Envoy crossed the right lane and ran into a guard rail before also hitting the Fariellos and their 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police report.

Rivera and the Fariellos were treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital and have been discharged, hospital staff confirmed late Saturday afternoon. Pieklo was not listed as a patient.

State police, the coroner's office and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office are investigating the crashes.
