Rapid City, SD : Two women and one man died in a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 85 on Monday August 4th 2014
Two Rapid City women and a Colorado man were killed early Monday morning in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 85 in Niobrara County, Wyo.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Robert Bentz, 33, of Westminster, Colo., was the driver of a northbound 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan that drifted across the southbound lane of the highway and off the road before hitting a driveway approach that sent the vehicle airborne.
Passengers Suzanne Schermerhorn, 59, and Nola Reber, 86, both of Rapid City, and Bentz were ejected from the vehicle and died. A fourth passenger, Krystal Sandoval, 26, was not ejected but taken to the Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk where she was hospitalized.
None of the passengers were wearing seat belts, and fatigue, speed and prescription medication usage are considered to be contributing factors to the crash, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3 a.m. Monday about 27 miles north of Lusk.
