An officer with the Tampa Police Department arrested a wrong-way driver Saturday night on a charge of driving under the influence.
Lale Atkinson, a 46-year-old Tampa resident, was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail just after 1:30 am Sunday. She is being held on a bond of $500.
According to a TPD report officer Jayson Uriarte was traveling south on North Nebraska Ave. when he observed a 2001 Ford Taurus traveling north in the lane next to him. A traffic stop was conducted and it was determined that the driver, Atkinson, was impaired.
The suspect's arrest report indicates her breath alcohol content was .160, twice the legal limit.
Fortunately nobody was injured and no property damage was incurred by the wrong-way driver.
This was the third TPD arrest of a wrong-way driver in the past 30 days.
One week ago another Tampa Police officer avoided a collision with Josean Carrasquillo on Interstate 275 near Howard Ave. The 25-year-old Hillsborough County resident's blood-alcohol content was .165 according to his arrest report.
On October 5th Hillary K. Whittle struck a TPD cruiser while traveling northbound on North Armenia, a one-way southbound thorough fare in Tampa. Officer Natasha Stanek suffered minor injuries in the crash and Whittle was arrested on a DUI charge.
This is not Atkinson's first brush with law enforcement. In April 2011 Tampa Police arrested her on trespassing and obstruction charges.
