Portland, OR : Woman fled her car after a pursuit with police and left her small child behind on Tuesday evening August 19th 2014

A woman fled her car after a pursuit with police and left her small child behind, Portland police said. Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said officers tried to pull the woman over for a traffic violation at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on Northeast Killingsworth, but she sped away. Police gave chase and tried to stop the woman’s car with spike strips, but the chase continued until Northeast 82nd Avenue and Russell Street, Simpson said. He said officers tried to stop her with a PIT maneuver. Her vehicle spun out and then she crashed into a stopped vehicle. The woman fled her car. Police caught up with her a short distance away. And after a struggle, police twice used a stun gun to subdue her. They then took her into custody. After she was taken into custody, police looked inside her car and discovered a small child in the backseat, Simpson said. The woman's child wasn’t injured, and after the child was taken to the hospital as a precaution, the child was turned over to the woman's family. No one was injured in the other vehicle. Police said 36-year-old Lakeshia Necole Robinson faces charges of attempt to elude by vehicle, attempt to elude on foot, first-degree criminal mischief, interfering with a peace officer, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and resisting arrest. She was taken to the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Wednesday. Source : Woman leaves child behind after police pursuit, crash
