FORT WAYNE, IN : Man, 21, killed in ORV crash; alcohol suspected on Friday, 23rd September 2016
An Ohio man was killed early Friday after the off-road vehicle he was riding on veered off a southwest Allen County roadway and flipped.
Emergency crews were called around 2 a.m. Friday to the 8000 block of Kress Road, just south of Airport Expressway near Branstrator Road. There, investigators found a John Deere Gator on its side just off the road.
Investigators said two men were riding in the utility along Kress Road when it left the roadway and sped into a ditch. The off-road vehicle then flipped.
The passenger on the vehicle – 21-year-old Alex M. Tetzloff of Sandusky, Ohio – was killed. The Allen County Coroner’s Office said later Friday that he died of blunt force trauma due to a motor vehicle crash and ruled his death the county’s 25th traffic fatality of the year. The OTV’s operator – 45-year-old John Stephenson of Fort Wayne – was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police said alcohol may be a factor in the crash. Neither victim was wearing a helmet, although both were wearing seatbelts.
Indiana Conservation Officers and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department handled the investigation. Indiana Conservation Officers, Allen County Police, Southwest Fire Department, and TRAA Ambulance Service assisted on the incident.
It’s not clear why the vehicle veered off the roadway.
