Jacksonville, N.C : 22-year-old died in a Motorcycle crash in Richlands on Sunday evening, March 26, 2017

A 22-year-old died after his motorcycle ran off the road and into a mailbox late Sunday evening.

Spencer Timothy Draper, 22, of Eustis, Florida was riding his 2016 Harley Davidson when he ran off the right side of the road while he was going around a slight bend on Fire Tower Road near Arabian Lane in Richlands, said Highway Patrol Trooper J. L. Morton.

He was riding about two motorcycle lengths behind Christopher Harkness, 22, of Camp Lejeune, who was also on a motorcycle, Morton said.

After Draper’s motorcycle went off the road he hit a mailbox, lost control of the motorcycle, hit a ditch, overturned multiple times, and was ejected from the Harley, Morton said.

Draper was taken to Albert J. Ellis Airport and flown to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, Morton said.

Morton does not believe speed played a factor in Draper’s death and he’s waiting on the medical examiner’s report to determine if alcohol or drugs were in his system.

Morton said Draper was Marine on Camp Lejeune but the base did not find Draper listed in their system.
