CAMERON, TX : 3-vehicle accident claims man's life on February, Wednesday 28th 2018
A pickup driver whose vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler died at the scene early Wednesday morning in Cameron.
The drivers of the 18-wheeler and another vehicle were taken by ambulance to Scott & White Medical Center-Temple. Their injuries were not believed to be life threatening, a Cameron Police Department news release said.
A caller dialed 911 at about 6:10 a.m. to report a multiple-vehicle accident in the 500 block of North Columbus Avenue. Officers went to the scene, where they found one driver was dead and his vehicle on fire, Sgt. Antony Maskunas said.
Cameron Police officers tried to put out the fire, but it rekindled. The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department put it out when it arrived.
Milam County Justice of the Peace Sam Berry pronounced the pickup driver dead at the scene. No autopsy of the man’s body was ordered.
The initial investigation seemed to show the 18-wheeler was southbound and came around the corner. It crossed into the oncoming lane and struck the pickup, killing the driver instantly. The 18-wheeler’s load came off as it rolled, and it slid down the road and hit the second car that was northbound, Maskunas said.
The name of the man who died won’t be released until the family is notified.
The investigation into the accident will be continued by the Cameron Police Department with the help of the Department of Public Safety.
