Marco Island,FL : Cyclist critically hurt; FHP says car hit her in East Naples crosswalk on January, Friday 2nd 2018

A bicyclist was in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle in East Naples on Friday afternoon.

Maria Malfitano, 57, of Naples, was hit by a car while riding her bike east on a crosswalk on Davis Boulevard toward Kings Way about 4 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Malfitano was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers for treatment.

Cheryl June Pohl, 72, of Naples, was driving a 2015 Lexus north in the outside lane on Kings Way and crossed Davis Boulevard. She failed to yield for crosswalk traffic and struck Malfitano, the Highway Patrol reported.

Alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash, FHP stated.
