Houston, TX : DUI charges filed in fatal accident on I-10 on Saturday, 24th September 2016
A driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and failing to stop and render aid in a fatal accident on Interstate 10 early Saturday morning, Houston Police said.
A Ford Expedition traveling westbound "failed to control his speed," striking a Ford Explorer traveling in the same direction around 5:25 a.m. Saturday. The impact of the crash caused the Explorer to overturn, ejecting the driver, according to Houston Police Department spokesman Keith Smith.
Smith said that witnesses reported seeing the driver of the Expedition stop, exit his vehicle and walk over to the driver of the Explorer, before returning to his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
The driver of the Explorer was pronounced dead on the scene.
Shortly after the collision, an HPD officer spotted the Black expedition, which had suffered severe damage to its front end from the crash. The driver was detained and tested under the drunk-driving protocols, ultimately charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid. The department was unable to release the name of the suspect.
HPD would not release the victim's identity either, pending notification of his family members. He was the only passenger in the vehicle, according to the Department.
