Dothan, AL : Three dead, two injured in two-vehicle crash on Highway 52, near the city limits of Taylor on Sunday night, April 3, 2016
Dothan police responded to a two-vehicle crash Sunday night that claimed the lives of three people, and left two others injured.
Dothan Police Sgt. Scott Owens confirmed three people died in the crash, which happened at the intersection of Alabama Highway 52 West and Shady Lane around 8:50 p.m. He said the crash occurred when a red sport utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a white passenger vehicle at Hartford Highway and the city limits of Taylor.
“We can confirm there were two fatalities pronounced at the scene,” Owens said.
Owens said three other people were taken to local hospitals for treatment, including one who was critically injured. The injuries to the other two motorists were not known as of press time. He said no young children were involved in the crash.
According to a message from Owens around 1:30 a.m. one of the three people injured had succumbed to his injuries and passed away. He said all three people killed in the crash were male.
“It looks like at least one person was ejected,” Owens said.
A half dozen Dothan police vehicles responded, along with a Dothan fire vehicle, a Houston County Sheriff’s deputy and an Alabama State trooper.
Owens, a supervisor in the traffic division of the Dothan Police Department, said the fatality became the fifth traffic fatality in the city of Dothan for 2016. He said there were only four traffic fatalities in all of 2015 for the city of Dothan, which were all pedestrian fatalities. He said three of the five fatalities in 2016 were pedestrian fatalities too.
Owens expected more details of what happened, and the identities of who passed away in the crash to be released later.
