Manteca,CA : Two killed in high-speed head-on crash near Manteca on November, Saturday 9th 2017
Two people in one vehicle died in a high-speed head-on collision Saturday afternoon north of Manteca, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victims, who have not been identified pending notification of next of kin, were in a 2011 Hyundai that was heading northbound on Union Road north of Lathrop Road. About 2:52 p.m., according to the CHP, the Hyundai was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver allowed the car to drift off the east edge of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, veering left across the southbound lane directly into the path of an oncoming 2004 Toyota.
The Toyota driver had not time to react. The Toyota hit the Hyundai head-on, sheering the Hyundai in half. The impact ejected its two passengers who both landed on the roadway suffering fatal injuries, the CHP reported.
The Toyota driver sustained major unspecified injuries, according to the CHP.
In addition, the report stated alcohol is considered a factor in the collision as the investigation continues.
